Certified organic 5-acre market garden farm. Vegetables are marketed through farmers markets and a CSA (box delivery).

Overview
  • Source of power: 2 horses.
  • Horses are used for: manure spreading and all tillage.
  • Acreage: 105; 5 in crops, 100 in woodlot.
  • Other livestock: chickens, meat birds and pigs in summer.
  • Skills offered in: fieldwork (both by hand and with horses); production,
    washing, handling, and marketing vegetables; full introduction to
    managing a small-scale farm, including the operational aspects as well
    as economic considerations and environmental concerns.
  • Work hours: 8 hrs/day; 5 days/wk.
  • Terms: room, board & learning in exchange for work;
    1 to 2 apprentices at a time; 1 to 4 months.
  • Stipend: yes.
  • Accommodations: bunkhouse; meals can accommodate vegetarian preferences ("The best meals I've had since I left home.").
  • Apprentice must be: enthusiastic, energetic, and interested.
  • Visit first: if apprentice desires.
  • Trial period: not necessary.
