Not a big time operator, but have been raising a small parch of oats for grain/feed for my horses. Crown Rust decimated it this year. Coulda poured the money for seed, weed spray and fertilizer down a rat hole. I'm trying to cut it for cattle feed (hay), but it'll yield only a few bales to the Acre. The joys of farming!!! Sorry for the whine! kelly

it doesn't make any difference if you plan to harvest 1 or 1000 acres of the loss of it all is a big disappointment. I have never farmed

Sorry to hear that. It is frustrating. Plant pathogens are becoming more and more common. In our area, vomitoxin affects oats and other grains just about every year due to the excessively wet and warm early summer season.

Hang in there Kelly. Look at what you learned, the good time you had doing it and what you plan to plant next...yep, that is indeed...farming!
