How was the match Andy. Did you get to go?

Yes I did get to go, it was my first time to attend this event. It was just plowing, no competitive events. The weather was great. A good day of visitation.

It's hard to beat a good plowing match. Mostly all good folks who attend both to compete as well as those who come to watch.

I know people like to shine, but I think we all should focus less on competition and more on cooperation. Especially farmers need more working together, less competing with each other, however innocent it may appear. This mindset of competition in pretty much everything is detrimental to developing an inclusive society, where people care for each other and each other's well-being. It overall makes the idea of winners and losers more acceptable and thereby numbs people to the fate of others.

Klaus, you make a good point. We used to have three or four contests around here every year. The best part of the contests for me were exactly as you describe. We would all plow a bit before and often times after the contests just for folks who came to watch. At one plow day we all messed around, shared a noon meal and had a great time. As far as prizes, heck I think I'd do it for plastic spoons. It was just a great time for men and horses to share.

Many of the men have passed away now. I am in their debt. They took me under their wing and taught me much. It was a great thing for me learning from some older guys who cut their teeth on plow handles!
