Does the use of fertilizers tend to burn out the organic matter of the soil?

Michael Sills says 2016-09-20 07:56:16 (CST)

I would think a natural fertilizer such as chicken litter or manure etc would add organic matter to soils but I also would think that spray or spread pellet fertilizer would increase the burn rate of the organic material in soils. So ill sit back and straddle the fence on this one.

The nitrogen feeds the microbes that break down the organic matter.
