Which is usually the more economical part of a dairy cow's ration, grain or roughage?
I would say roughage. Most anyone except maybe a 1-3 cow operation has some pasture, but not enough land to grow all the grain needed.So they would have to buy that
If feeding both hay and grain, and you have to buy both, roughage is cheaper but milk quality and quantity will suffer without the grain
