Both my team have outgrown their 6 inch o-ring snaffles. They are starting to pinch. I definitely need to move up to a 6.5 inch, and one is still growing fast. He could possibly wind up in a 7 inch. However, I can't find anywhere that sells larger than 6 inch in a standard jointed team bit (o-ring snaffle). I have no desire to switch bits, as they do just fine with these. One alternative I considered is a full-cheek snaffle, which I like for riding, but it has the same mouthpiece. I wasn't sure a full-cheek would be good for team driving, though. Perhaps a half-cheek? I've also found eggbutt snaffles in 6.5 inch (probably the most common non-shanked bit in that size). FTR, I've tried Bowman, drafttack.com, and most standard internet equine supply stores. They all have small draft and smaller--nothing over a 6" (except the eggbutt).
Does anyone have large horses, and where do you find the larger sized bits?
