Attended a farm sale held by one of my Amish friends who is selling out to relocate to be near his children. Some sale results were a little surprising to me. A John Deere hay loader in usable condition sold for 100.00. Less than six years ago, I couldn't find a hay loader for less than 700. A well used scraper for a pioneer forecart sold for 650.00. A small disk harrow in fair condition sold for 125.00. A two section adjustable tooth harrow went for 55.00. An International metal bed, four wheeled manure spreader in fair condition went for 275.00. A steel wheeled farm wagon with a flat went for 800. A kick type hay tedder couldn't get a bid. #9 mower with 4.5ft bar 750. #7 mower with 4.5ft bar 400. a 4.5 ft bar, guards and knife 22.50. Team of Belgian/quarter horse cross, one mare or horse aged 13 and 17, 3475. nylon y-backed work harness 650. I didn't buy much in the way of equipment but I did come away with an Ashland wood cook stove, so I may not be doing much farming this winter but I reckon I'll have hot biscuits and sorghum molasses! All in all it was a good auction and well attended. I sure hate to see these folks go but I believe I was seeing some interesting trends in farm sales in the area.
