Went out to check water last evening and found one windmill head all tore up from the wind yesterday morning. so We spent this morning taking the head down and putting up a different one so the cattle will have water. the wind is blowing real good and the well is pumping water now.

KC, it takes a heck of a wind to tear up a windmill.
What kind are you running? I worked at Baker's for years, good mill goes by Monitor name. Chicago Aermotor are great ones too.

I'm getting too old to climb a windmill tower any more. Stay safe!!

God bless,
Mike Rock

We have all Aermotor 8' the tail had been into the fan, It wasn't still there the the fan was turning but waved side to side about 12-18 inches 4 spokes were broke out of the hub it wrecked the fan and the tail. I could not believe it was still up I've seen several tore up through the years the case and the inside is still goo just have to take it apart and put a good hub on it. I have the parts to put it back together just takes time to do. A neighbor lost 3 heads we had just got their wells back to pumping water and the next night I lost this one. May everyone have plenty of water an grass for there livestock. Be safe and GOD bless all of you.

Sadly, our once ubiquitous working windmills are now found only on Amish farms, at least around southwest Wisconsin. Also, most have had gasoline motors attached to them for continuous water delivery. I have seen several parts and pieces offered for sale but the mammoth process of re-erecting one and making sure it has all the parts and works correctly is more than I could even contemplate. New windmill costs are exorbitant. You are lucky to have working windmills where you are.

BTW, I have wanted to congratulate you on your attempt to keep the Front Porch alive. I suspect that one of the factors that keeps more people from posting is the lag time between responses and their appearance on the Forum.
