Lots of barley standing in the fields of northwestern Wisconsin. I'm told it's already been sold to locals for hog rations and sheep rations. What else is it used for.... other than as a component of some whiskeys?

For people like me, who come from Bavaria, barley is our favorite grain. Barley malt is used to make all kinds of beer. It needs a cooler climate to mature just right. Wheat is also a good ingredient to make wheat beer, which we call 'Weissbier" in Bavaria, a beer that is drunk primarily in the morning, the exact reason why I could never really figure out, except that it tastes good.

Most of the barley is a feed grain very simular to corn in feed rations. Malt barley is used in beer. I'm sure malt barley can be fed but not visa versa.

Scott,
Back in the 1930's-40's my mom said her brothers loved feeding the pigs bad batches of home made beer........ a good time had by all. :))
They were from German/Poland. That area that changed hands every few years so folks kept two flags handy.
