K.C. , I can't tell you the exact date yet today, but I'll have business to take care of in Jamesport next week, I'll find out and let everybody know. In any case, it is in the first week of July.

We were in Jamesport today. Unfortunately nobody had a flyer yet, but I was told the auction would take place on Wednesday and Thursday of the week of the 4th of July. Since that would be the 4th and the 5th, I'll better wait till they have a flyer so that I can really verify the dates. Anyway, although hardly advertised, the auction is one of the largest in the Midwest when it comes to horse-drawn implements , buggies, carriages etc. Acres and acres of items! Relatively few draft horses are offered, though, in part also because Jamesport itself among the Amish has waning numbers of heavy horses and the few renowned breeders take their horses elsewhere. They sell a lot of riding and buggy horses, though.
The auction certainly would warrant a visit by the esteemed publisher of the RuraL Heritage magazine!!

If it’s July 4-5, I’ll be there. If it’s the week before, I won’t be able to make it but will be heading to Horse Progress Days in Michigan. If it’s the week after I’ll be in Tennessee. Hope it’s July 4-5.

Well, Joe, in this case I'll look forward to seeing you there. It traditionally has been in the week of the 4th of July as long as I have attended it, and that's ever since 1993!

Well, I'd like to confirm now that the Jamesport auction is on July 4th and 5th. The first day it is an incredible array of miscellaneaous stuff, from kitchen stoves, old-fashioned washing-machines to garden tools of any kind, but also huge amounts of collectors' items, and whatever.
The second day sees endless rows of horse-drawn items, machinery, buggies, carriages and also a horse sale of all kinds of horses, usually no more than one hundred, but also no fewer of 50.
Since this is a sale that is meant to benefit an Amish school, there are of course refreshments offered by Amish ladies. That's the only complaint I have, people like me, originating from Bavaria, do not find what we are used to at public festivities, namely beer. I might have to bring my own again.
I hope to see a lot of Front Porchers there, you can easily reognize me, an elderly gentleman with a grey chin beard, limping, using a walking cane with brass hame top.

I forgot to mention that among the miscellaneous stuff on the 4th there usually are also many horse tack items, saddles etc. More of course on the next day; anyway, there is something for everybody. And no, I do not get any commission just for praising the auction as really worthy your visit. I look forward to seeing everybody who wants to chat with me, maybe even bid on the carriage I am going to sell!!
