Faces the light as a rule.

If she faces the light is that so she can see better?

If she faces the light, she does not cast a shadow into where she is scratching and does not miss any morsels of food. Never thought about it. It's another one of those things where an animal is perfect for the environmental niche it fills and adapts to maximize benefits for itself.
