Today, my maple syrup season started. It was warm, crazy warm. The mud in places is drying and very sticky. I decided to use three horses on the sap sled. Our gathering tank holds 210 gallons, plus the weight of the sled. So a loaded weight of around 2400# plus the weight of the teamster.
My youngest son told me that he would drive. He harnessed all the horses and was ready to go. I asked him if he needed me to check things over. He said, "Go ahead dad, but your teaching over the last thirty years.... I got it!" Yep, he sure did. He handled the horses in the confines of the woods every bit as well as I can.
So, another milestone was reached, as I held the hand of my grandson, as we watched my son and the horses head off into the woods.

What a reassurance to know that the next generation can continue with what we hold dear to our hearts, Ralph!

Klaus, you sir are very right! As my family gets older, all of them have something dear to them that I have taught, or opened their eyes to experience whatever it is that pleases them. I am very thankful to see and know that I have touched them. Life is short! We need to all do what makes our hearts happy.
