How much of the organic matter in feed is destroyed by livestock during digestion?

From the looks of my mule manure, I'd say 50-60%. Mules have better digestive system than horses. Cow on the other hand would probably be closer to 80-85% my guess.

Fifty percent.

I'm assuming by "destroyed" the book is referring to the amount of organic from feed, that is burned to produce energy, body heat, etc. along with the other nutrients gained.
