It does increase the water holding capacity of sandy soils, I suspect it could decease the water holding capacity of heavy clay soils since the void areas would increase. That’s my guess.

Yes.Straight sandy soil drains too fast. Clay soils , the water doesn't sink in.The Organics hold the moisture
