Our draft horse club (in MN) is in need of insurance. We do several public events a year (field days, antique farm demonstrations, educational events, log skidding demos at a history center, sleigh rally, etc.). Most of what we do involves spectators.
We are in need of insurance coverage in a timely fashion. I would be so grateful to hear from others who are in clubs what you do for insurance and/or who you use for insurance. The more info I can get in a timely fashion the better. Thanks so much for your help!

Chessie, I wish that I had an answer for you. This is a big concern for many in our horse world. Thankfully, here in Ohio, our state government just passed legislation that holds us somewhat harmless when engaged in agritourism or events as you describe. There are still responsibilities for us, like making sure our equipment is in good shape, the horses are harnessed correctly etc. But it basically informs people that being around animals comes with some risks. Signs have to be posted etc, but it is a great step for us farmers who engage the public. Our "Farm Bureau" helped with this passage. Hopefully this will catch on in other states.

The Draft Horse Journal always carries ads for horse event insurance. I have my horse liability insurance via the Farm Bureau.

Klaus - is this your personal 'farm' insurance, or for a club/association?
And thanks for tip on the Journal!

That's for our farm. We occasionally have buggy rides for events such as birthday parties, harvest festival etc.
I would also check the Carriage Operators od North America website. They seem to offer insurance, although I know it's rather high.
