A couple of years ago, I wrote in Rural Heritage, a story about raising pumpkins and squash on plastic in raised beds. I could control weeds and more importantly, moisture in the growing crops. My Amish buddy found merit in my experiment. He has ten acres of vine crops growing in the manner that I described. The crop is off to a very good start, especially in this drought year that 2016 is becoming for us here in northeast Ohio. I am glad that I inspired him.
