It was a little strange with the vendor booths inside a trade show hall instead of in an arena or under a tent outside on the grass. There were more vendors than past HPD events, selling a wider range of goods. I was reminded of something one of the HPD board members told me earlier this year. HPD is an Amish event put on by the Amish for the Amish. That point was clear with the number of booths specifically oriented toward serving Amish families. We had a good show, as I think most vendors did. There was a very good crowd on Friday, which is always the busiest of the two days, and a reasonable crowd Saturday. The accommodations for vendors were excellent. It was the easiest unload/load we have ever had.

The grounds were probably a little smaller than people might have liked for fieldwork. There was just not as big of fields as when the event is held at a farm. And I heard some folks say they missed the "on the farm" feel of other HPD events. Here's a shot of the vendor hall Saturday afternoon.

The indoor venue would be nice when it pours rain or perhaps get out of the heat. I can see where they could attract other vendors.

The field demonstrations are a very big part of HPD for me, and I am sure others.

One thing that I am very sure of, this show will be evaluated by many. They will come together with a list of pros and cons. I am sure the successes will be mirrored and the negatives will be avoided by the show planners.

Change is hard for all of us, hopefully we will all grow through this as well. The HPD event has grown to include a very sizeable crowd. I am sure there are many challenges that have to be overcame to ensure the safety and comfort for all involved.
