According to the terminology of the Standard, when does a female chicken become a hen?

Jonathan Shively says 2016-03-24 09:02:22 (CST)

I always thought it was like a heifer, once she successfully calves she is a cow. So my thought was, as soon as a pullet laid an egg she was a hen.

When my girls showed chickens in 4H, the judge said at 12 months of age. (I assume he meant when they turned 1 year old).

So am doing a shotgun approach on my answer. Providing two answers hoping one is correct!!!!!!!!

I believe they are "pullets" until 22 weeks old or about 6 months. Once they start laying, they become hens
