What is meant by capillary movement of soil water?
Subsurface moisture drawn up though the small spaces between the soil particles. Rolling/packing a field after planting compacts the soil enough that capillary action occurs and provides the seed enough moisture to germinate even if no rain has fallen.

Upward movement of water in soil against gravity. Water molecules are attracted to each other and in small spaces, pull each other upward in spite of gravity. I find the movement of a herd of cattle is like flowing water... if you get one to go, the rest follow :)

i believe it is like "suction" for lack of better terms or for the same reason water builds up and sucks together to make a larger droplet. or why water can 'Wick" up a napkin rope etc and my final example the same reason you can syphon water
