A parasitic skin disease in circular patches.

I was a bit confused when I saw the term "parasitic" in the answer, thinking of parasites only as worms, flys, lice, ticks and such. But, after looking it up, parasitic, in this instance also refers to the fungal infection which contributes to ring worm, or Dermatophytosis. This fungus feeds on keratin in top layer of skin, hair and nails. In olden days (after 1906) ring worm was treated with mercury, sulfur, or iodine. Another treatment was mixing Araroba powder with lard to be applied to the infection.

Not actually a worm, but a parasite type of infection.
