With chickens, is egg laying ability transmitted to the daughters by the sire, by the dam, or by both sire and dam?
I imagine the egg laying trait is on the X chromosome. And, since both rooster and hen have X chromosomes (rooster has an X and a Y), that the trait is passed on by both.
