Are eggs from pullets in their first year of production, or from older hens, usually preferred for hatching?
Judging from some of the weird shapes and contents of the eggs I have gotten from some of the hens when they are just starting to lay, I would say the eggs from the older pullets would be better for hatching.

That is a good question. I have wondered that myself. Are the smaller pullet eggs as fertile? Are the hatched chicks smaller and more or less viable? Inquiring minds want to know.

Older hens, not the ones in their first year.
I know my older birds (older than 1 yr) their eggs are much more uniform in shape and size.
