Joe hope you haven't been hurt to much with the ice storm in Iowa. I heard it was kind of bad

Roads were icy and contributed to a lot of accidents including a 70-vehicle pile-up near Ames on I-35. We missed most of the freezing rain and just got much needed snow. Thanks for asking, KC.

It's kind of ridiculous. Here in the Kansas City Metro area local TV stations sent out crews into the surrounding region to cover the storm yesterday as it had been announced for a couple of days and we got - nothing! We really could use a nice snow cover now. I have dormant spinach and corn mache out in a field and without snow they suffer from the severe freezes. Time again and again they get my hopes up just to be disappointed.
In freezing rain people should stay home and if they can't do that, SLOW DOWN, and I mean really slow. 15 miles per hour is still faster than ending up in a ditch or on top of other cars respectively in the hospital. I don't understand why even professional drivers don't get that.
I never forget the advice of an old farmer friend of mine who used to remark( in Bavarian, of course): Look, Klaus, they race like crazy and when they are there, nobody really needs them anyway.

If you cant drive at least 55 mph you should not be on the road, just stay home. Because it is not safe for you to be out there on the road, For what ever reason. Now a team or a horseback is OK. Here in NE if you have a slow moving emblem on your wagon or implement any traffic that passes you has to slow down to your speed before passing you, then when the road is clear they can pass. The county Sheriff has wrote as many as 12 tickets in 4 miles.
