The olestra wives tale was not to stretch barb wire under 50 degrees F. Do the experts agree with that statement?

No, I know of a fence that I helped build last year, we were wearing insulated coverall when we worked on it. The temperature was probably in the 20’s and snowing when we stretched the wire and the fence still is tight and looks good. There was 3 sections of this fence about half a mile long that was built in this weather.

The last few years high tensile barbed wire has come on the market. It really stays tight.
The "old"barbed wire doesn't stay as tight as the new high tensile.
To keep any fence tight does require well built corners to keep its strength.
I would say that stretching wire in 100 degree weather would be harder on wire than 50 degree weather.
Are you about caught up on your work Mr Rose?

Lots of wire fence gets built around here in the colder weather. I suppose there is a chance of losing some stretch when it gets warmer but I haven't seen it be a issue.

Seen more issues when building pipe corals in summer and then when it gets cold it can break some welds from contracting, but a not big problem.

I had never heard this before.
we always stretch wire when we have the time and we don't care what the temp is.

Thank you everyone for the responses. The red brand representative I emailed made that statement and on some of the other forums I visit not to stretch below 50 degrees F. I will continue on with stretching wire.
