Do chestnut trees prefer limey soil?
I am going to say that they like a higher pH soil yes. I base this upon they way they grew among the maples in the eastern forest before they were desimated. Now, almost extinct, new hybrids are being planted. These were majestic trees, great for lumber, fuel, firewood and "mast". The lumber wouldn't rot when touching the ground. The mast or nut crop was huge. That's why folks could fatten hogs so easy in the forest.
