How many tons of hay will a mature cow consume in the course of a year on the average?
I am going to guess 3.5 to 4.

Assuming the cow is 1100 lbs eating 3 percent of body wt 365 days she will need 6 tons.

6--6.5 ton per year on beef cows weighing about 1000 LBS.
