Without "Google", I'd say post World War II. There have been soil amendments around for a very long time like guano, greensand, lime and such, but I think the Post war era ushered in many things that changed agriculture in the US.

Well Jerry, that figures...just like me..(born) about a hundred years too late!
Only nice thing, the country was filled with small farms powered by draft animals in 1850. Though I didn't live through it, I have no trouble imagining it. That would be awesome. Neighbor helping neighbor, thrashing rings, big families, hand milked cows and small cottage business everywhere. Awesome!
