Just Say “No” to NAIS
by John Mcafee

On February 26, 2007, I attended a Beef Cattle Production and Risk Management Seminar at Calhoun, Georgia. It was sponsored by the University of Georgia. Several topics were discussed. The last topic was NAIS. The speaker asked for a show of hands by those who had registered their farms for NAIS. Most all the cattlemen raised their hands.

He stated that NAIS, at this time, is voluntary, but he felt it would soon be mandatory. He stated that Wal-Mart, McDonalds, and Burger King were demanding to know where their beef was coming from. My hunch is Wal-Mart would buy their beef from China if they could. Folks, this thing is not dead. Just trace the money: Wal-Mart, Tyson, and Cargill, etc. Keep Fighting!

John Mcafee lives in Ranger, Georgia. His letter appeared in the Evener 2007 issue of Rural Heritage.
