Coolstance
Posted by Diana nottingham at 2012-04-01 12:46:56
Dear Dr Beth ,

Coolstance ( copra meal) is now marketed in the UK and is advertised as preventing tying-up. I have read of other people feeding it to their EPSM horses and I would appreciate your view. My pony has EPSM and currently has 1 pint oil a day as well as a molasses free chaff.

Many thanks.

This company is also marketing in the US. They have contacted me and I seen and test-fed the CoolStance copra and he PowerStance powdered coconut oil. I only added a small amount to my horses' meals but they seemed to accept them reasonably well. Cool Stance is only 8% fat but is is also low in starch and sugar, and it is a granular feed that should help to soak up the oil that I would recommend added to control tying up or other EPSM related problems. The PowerStance is great as a 100% dry fat, but it will also need to be fed at about twice the volume of oil so using this as the main fat source would be a bit expensive. But both are good products that could find their way into an EPSM diet.
