Enlaged Teat (11 mos Clydesdale)

Hello, we just rec'd 8 days ago an 11 mos PMU filly from Canada, she had a long trailer ride from canada to Texas but generaly was ok, a little on the thin side but the vet checked her out and gave her a good bill of health with an Rx for more groceries! two days later we bathed her and we noticed on of her teats was large, almost to the size of a nursing mare but being only 11 mos we know that is not possible. Could it have something to do with her being a PMU foal? It is not hot, appears to be dry and she is not bothered by it. can you offer any ideas, should I bring her back to the vet?
Thank you

David, I suspect this is not anything serious but it is a bit unusual. Young fillies can have a benign udder enlargement (than eventually goes away), but usually of both sides. You seem to be describing the teat and not the entire udder, so it is possible that this is something she was born with as an oddity. Teats can also enlarge if another foal was trying to nurse on it, but this isn't very common in horses. This wouldn't have anything to do with being a PMU foal, as there really is nothing different about PMU foals and other foals. I'd keep an eye on it and call your veterinarian if it changes (such as enlarges, gets warm, or starts to bother her). Otherwise, I'd just ask your veterinarian about it the next time he or she is there.
