Steady Work

Dr. Valentine:
Thanks for your answer to my hay soaking question.
One other. I know that it's important to keep the horse in steady work. Does that mean 7 days per week? Are 5 days a week sufficient? Can the horse have 1 day or 2 consecutive days off?
Thanks

You are very welcome. Steady work is really useful for horse's mental and physical health. But, if you can give the horse turnout for a few days and not just have it standing in a stall this can be even better!

The horse gets turnout each day. I take it from your response that they do not need to work under saddle or on the longe line each day.
Thanks again.

Exactly! Daily work is ideal, but just not possible for most of us. Turnout allows the horse to exercise itself. Obviously some horses are more active in turnout than others, but you'd be amazed how much ground they can cover in a day!
