Growth on Ox foot
Posted by John in Virginia at 2008-09-25 21:27:16
I have a team of eight year old Chi-Holstien Oxen. One of them has recently developed a growth between his toes on his left rear foot. The growth looks like a wart and has just recently become quite large and tender. It seems hard to the touch, though the steer doesn;t like me to mess with it. He is tender on that foot, but is still bearing wait when he walks. He is about 2700 lbs. and may be difficult to restrain for treatment. Any thoughts on what this might be or what should be done next?

John;
I don't have any experience with steer/oxen , but I would not wait long to get a Vet involved. This "wart" seems to be growing and if it's sensitive , that's doesn't sound good . I'm sure they can sedate him/her to enable them to take a good look , sonigram , x-ray . Good luck . Repost and let us know what's found .

I'm not sure how I missed this one, but I agree with Butch that you need a veterinarian's assistance here. The odds are good that this is inflammatory and not a tumor, but it will still probably need removal and sending to a pathologist to determine what it is so you know how best to treat it. Let us know if you find out and of course let us know what happens here.
