Rolled-in hoof wall
Posted by PamV. at 2008-07-28 14:18:03
I have a mustang mare whose hoof walls on the outside edge of the rear feet wants to roll in. This horse does very little work, and most of that on sandy ground. Do I trim the roll down a little at a time, or is this something a pro needs to see? I've worked with horses for many years and have never seen one like this.

I think you are describing a foot that has had so little wear that the hoof wall is collapsing onto the sole. If so, it should all be trimmed out right away. In some cases, there is a good chance of bad sole bruising from the hoof wall being on the sole. I would recommend always using a good farrier, especially when you are dealilng with unusual situations.
