EggBar Shoes

I am rehabbing an older dressage horse who has lameness behind of unknown origin. Great, but after xrays, flexion and testing up the butt, there is no explanation why this poor horse gets short and hitchy behind.
So, I inherited him. He was underweight, had no muscle whatsoever, and what little muscle he had, it was hard, corded, and is now being massaged.
He is being turned out, fed well, added fat to his diet, plus MSM and Vit. E.
He is a large WB and right now I pulled his shoes and want to give him some time for his feet to tell us what they are "needing". When the time comes, I am thinking egg bars behind for added support.
Do the egg bars provide a general-type of support or are they more designed for a specific type of support?

Bar shoes of any sort will stabilize and strengthen the hoof capsule. An egg bar has the added advantage of an extension that supports the suspensory apparatus. You will not cause any problems with the egg bars, but I generally will not use a shoe unless I know exactly what I am trying to achieve. If the horse is sore in the flexor tendons or suspensory ligament, or if there is some hoof capsule troubles, then the egg bars will be fine.

Unfortunately, the vets simply can't find any reason for his shortness/hitchiness. Which makes this very frustrating.
