Dew and hooves
Posted by Meg at 2006-08-11 13:54:09
What is the danger of a horse's hooves being exposed to the summer month's dew (night turnout). Can it make a horse lame? Is is cosmetic damage only?

Thanks in advance!

There is no danger as long as the hoof is not constantly wet. The periople at the top of the hoof will often swell when soaked, such as the soaking from dew on grass. This will cause it to look as if there is some skin coming off the outside of the foot. However, this is not a problem, and should not cause any lameness.
