New England Ox Teamsters Pull
Posted by Robin for Brian at 2006-07-13 13:45:02
Next Weekend July 21-23 will be the Pull, etc, in Brooklyn, Ct. I hope to see a few porch sitters there on Friday. Friday, as I understand it, will be the cart class, plus a few other fun things. A good time should be had by all.

I plan to be there and I know a lot of others will also. By a lot. I think over 120 teams. I wish someone would count all the teams sometime and post the total number.
While most teams cross the scale, 30% to 40% don't. The Free For All (FFA) entries don't, the skill classes (cart class and log scoot) teams don't, most of the youth teams don't, and the single ox events don't usually weigh in.
A lot of BULL next weekend.
see you there.
Ken P.
If you to see them this weekend, some of them will be just down the road in North Stonington, CT.

Hi Robin, what time does the fun start on Friday? Thanks, Daren

We'll start the senior (over 60 years old) show classes at 9 am and have show classes throughout the morning and early afternoon. Pulls don't start until later in the day.

I'm not sure of the time at this moment, but I will be there before noon.
Hope to meet you. I am not bringing my oxen, but I bought them from a connection in Brooklyn. Looking forward to seeing a few acquaintances and friends.

Sandy, thanks for the info. Now for some directions from Hartford, Ct., and I will be all set . Thanks again Daren

It's only 35 minutes or so east of Hartford. 84 east to 384 to Rt. 6 and then the fairgrounds is about a half mile south of the center of Brooklyn on Rt. 169. The best thing to do is go to our website and link onto directions or lodging at
www.brooklynfair.org to find what you need.
Here's a quick rundown of the schedule if people want to choose a specific day to attend:
FRIDAY--starting at 9am show classes, cart classes, and single ox twitching class. The only pull on Friday is the ton six foot and that will start at 6pm. SATURDAY--2400, 2800, 3200 six foot classes as well as the log scoot class, kid's 1600 distance pull and the backing contest. The free for all six foot pull will be at 7 pm on Saturday. SUNDAY--all Sunday's pulls are distance classes. They'll pull 2800, 2400, free for all, powderpuff, 2000 and 3200. The drawing for the raffle calves will also be on Sunday.

I need to say, Sandy, you must drive faster than I do and that says something. I made it to the pulls. It looked like it was a nice setup. I got to see the very last pull and heard who won what and it was time to go. Were the Holstiens the raffle calves? I have a picture of them. They looked tired by the end of the day on Sunday. Nice looking animals. My friend who is thinking Vet Tech as a career was a bit taken aback at the size of the Chianina oxen. It was a good day. Just wish I planned to get there a bit earlier.
