Wanted: Percheron Stallion at Stud
Posted by Diane B at 2006-05-16 17:53:37
I am currently in search of Percheron stallions who stand at stud and offer A.I. It would seem the numbers are small, but I need all options available as I can get. If you know of any stallions available, or happen to have one yourself, would you please post your information here for me. I'd truly appreciate it.

Diane, I could make you a list of Percheron studs a mile long, but I'm very partial to Ironwood Beauregard. He's in Ohio, owned by Dennis Mayes, Windsong Acres. I think Beau is about 13 yo. by now. Check old Beau out I think you'll like:). Steve

There are a jillion studs out and about and maybe a few of them are good ones. But where are you? You may have a world-beater next door that you haven't heard about.

Don't know where you are, but there is one in Ruthton, MN. Post if you want more info.

I can name about two dozen off the top of my head. Let's narrow the playing field. What exactly are you looking for? What traits exactly are you looking to improve in the mating? Is your mare cycling and you have someone lined up to do the AI? Most breeding farms stop shipping semen in June. At that time they are getting ready for the shows or it's time to put up hay.

joaker-
I'd be interested in info on the stud in Ruthton. I'm in MN and have a team of Belgian mares that I'm thinking of breeding, but I haven't made up my mind yet. I'm tempted to try a Percheron. Thanks

There is Registered Sorrel Percheron Stud North of Blackduck, MN, that would be my choice to beed to a Belgian mare. He is the shorter old-timey type of work horse, that most farmers prefer. He has the light mane & tail with a stripe in the face. Gerald Notch is the owner. My second choice would be a Suffolk, and there is one by Deer River owned by David Bird. Don't know if either does A.I.
