Posted by MSILLS at 2015-07-31 23:55:15
im looking for somethin with a nice appearance to add to the front of the passenger wagon i built to tie the lines up to (hang them on etc) for when im climbing up or down or while the horses are standing tied to keep the lines up? anyone got any picture or ideas?

a wooden peg with knob on top is the usual. How come you don't have lines in hand when getting up and down or when untieing them? You sound like a wreck waiting to happpen.

Dale, quit going so easy on MSILLS, go ahead and tell him/her what you REALLY think! :D

As for me, if I have a team that won't stand when I hang up the lines to do something, I always like to have someone there to hold them for me… I understand on a green team, you should keep the lines in hand… but on a broke team, why shouldn't you trust them enough to wrap the lines up to hold them… there are always situations where it's best to not do that, but then, I found out, if you don't trust them, they won't trust you… better safe than sorry, but if I can't hang the lines up when I go to get a gate or something, I really don't want to drive them...

I like a rail across the front something small that is just below my knees when sitting you can hang your lines on(provided that it's alright with everyone of course) and I hang various other things on it that I use I've made small boxes to hold drinks and snacks in so that you have them at hand even clip your phone case yes I have been known to text and drive haha

thanks for the replies even from mr. scrooge.i usually do have them in hand and always when loading or unloading and even when climbing on but i still want the slack tied up somewhere... but when they are tied to a post and my lines are strung to the wagon and i walk away i generally just tie the lines up somehow so when i come back they are not on the ground getting stepped on and yes i know i could tie the lines up over the hames etc but i was just trying to see what was out there and what other people do because i am often driving by myself and opening gates etc and while i may be new to driving i been around horses and rodeo my whole life if i cant trust the horse not to bolt i wouldnt trust it with my family in it in the first place let alone anyone elses. I am sure there will come a day where i do have the dreaded wreck and most likely it will be my fault. But i aint never had a horse that didnt throw me once while i owned it even good ones have thier days. And thats what puts the grit in a person and thats where you learn to be a teamster keeping a level head and control of a horse. So long story short yes i am a wreck waiting to happen.. we all are i just hope i keep my head and stop it before it happens.

Waiting to hear an explanation from MSILL why he does as he does.

I have been on the front porch for some years now, and have gained great respect for many of the posters here. Among them is Dale, he has the ability to break down questions that seem so complicated into simple terms. It reminds me of the days of the space race. The United States spend millions on trying to develop a pen that could perform with zero gravity. The Russians just used a pencil! Dale please keep it up!!!
