KM Update
Posted by KM at 2015-07-30 18:21:28
Haven't posted much on RH lately. Been busy and life seems to get in the way. The little boys with the little grey ponies are now full on teenagers. The oldest is working off the farm this year for a construction company building houses. The younger is the right and left hand. He is a heck of a hand with equipment. He has put up all the first crop about 200 acres now. Cut 35 more acres of oat hay and is waiting on it to cure. Not sure what I would do without him. Mrs. KM has has a debilitating muscle condition. We have been to Dr.s all over including university hospitals and the Mayo clinic. We know what she doesn't have but not what she does. Still no answers but she is in a wheel chair at this point. The oldest little girl is now a sophomore at the state university studying to be an elementary teacher. The baby is now the big girl and running a household with her mothers coaching. Me I am the monkey in the middle. Basically I chase kids.

Currently only one shire colt. (He will be for sale in the fall as he isn't anything I can use.) Three mares full sisters in foal to the same stallion.

Little paint ponies that started it all are now in the early 20's and starting to show the effects of age. They only get hooked a dozen times a year or so. Still have the same issues of wanting to trot everywhere. I should sell them but my kids would sell me first.

So there is a quick update. I have a couple ideas in the shop. A ground drive forecart and a 3 wheeled hitch cart. Something high enough to see over the team(s) with an adjustable seat height.

And memories in others' minds is what we leave when we are gone.

KM, if by chance that Mrs.KM is taking statin drugs for cholesterol, that may be the problem. I have known several people here in Texas that swear that statins have taken and crippled loved ones. I have been prescribed them myself and after 2 wks couldn't raise my arms above my head and deep pain unbearable. I'm 265 and stout as a bull yearling but statins put me to bed. Just a thought. I hope she improves soon. FT

KM, If it's Minnesota Mayo we are about 400 miles closer to your home. We can put you up either way. Good luck; we spent about 5 days there 10 years ago with my wife.

My first thought was what Floyd said, in regard to whether Mrs. KM is taking statin drugs. I thought I was dying when I had the first episode of extreme leg cramping. I discussed with DR. who just sort of blew it off with saying I needed the drugs because of high cholesterol. I think it would have progressed to the muscle-wasting that I've heard about in connection with these drugs. I have lowered the dosage to what my body can tolerate, to heck with the doctor. Will pray that Mrs. KM gets an accurate diagnosis soon and a speedy recovery.

Kari (AKA Lost Farmer)

Reading your post made me realize how fast time flies by. Sorry to hear of the troubles you and the Mrs. are facing. It is so difficult not having a diagnoses. Rest assured that you and your families are in my prayers!
Wishing you and the Mrs. My best

Thanks all. No statin drugs. We are moving forward. As Mrs. KM always says I don't have cancer and this won't kill me. We have a good life for the most part.

Heaven forbid but they have ruled out ALS, correct?
Your family is in my thoughts.

We have ruled out ALS, MS, and about 3 more pages of stuff. We have given up caffine, sweetners, and most every other thing. It has been a wild ride. Spent 2 weeks at a university hospital and 3 weeks at Mayo seeing doctors. We have a collection of things doctors have said that I never want to hear again. "This is bizarre!" "Never seen this before." "Wow this is odd." All from some really good doctors. Several have said I have no idea.

But she has her mental health, and other than the muscle thing is pretty darn healthy. Lots to be thankful for. Have the oldest home for a few days. It has been fun to listen to the kids talk and share memories. We have been blessed. KM
