Marie Brown is selling her Percherons
Posted by Klaus Karbaumer at 2015-07-15 16:18:35
If our little farm was not already overstocked with four horses( two Percherons, one Belgian, one Haflinger) I certainly would go up to Hudson, Iowa to see if I could snatch up one or more of her horses. We have one out of her and her late husband's Percheron breeding program and he is a jewel. She also will sell several ponies. I know that all of her horses are well-trained, they were used in the Brown's agritourism enterprise, I think they called it Hudson Heritage Farm. There are many farm items and the sale is on July 25.

An ad for the auction is on page 69 of the June/July issue of RH.

Klaus is right about the horses. The stallion Herbie was amazing.

Are they selling any mares? I only saw geldings on the bill.

No. Looks like there are 6 geldings and no mares.
And lots of equipment.

What a wonderful breeding program they had.

I always thought they were the equivalent in Percherons to RX Acres' Belgians. Big, athletic, proportional and willing workers.

And Dick and Marie were always wonderful ambassadors for draft horse farming. Their field days were great reunions of experienced horsemen and horsewomen from all over, and good events for beginners to find mentors.

Some of the best photos that made it in our calendars over the years were shot there.

To be mentioned in the same sentence as the Brown's is a huge compliment, thanks Joe

The first thing I noticed on one of the hayracks was a box full of Dick's horse trophies. And my heart broke.

Sure wish I'd seen this. I'd have bought a team. I watched several teams of Rod Andings be sold a few years ago. It was hard to watch but I know that at least one of those teams is in excellent hands.
