Transylvanian Oxen
Posted by Gail Cross at 2015-07-11 17:17:20
Thought I'd post a link to a pic of a LONG, LONG span of oxen working the fields of Transylvania---pretty wild! This is from an archive of photos by Frederick Clapp in the University of Wisconsin Library. He lived from 1879-1944. so taken sometime in that era.

WOW! Can't imagine how that many can be worked at the same time. I seem to see some people amidst the oxen. There also seem to be a couple of animals lying down. What is going on? Can you explain? Is there a caption or an accompanying article?

You have to zoom in to see it. It appears to be several tandem teams on many plows. You can see some type of equipment behind the second team. People spaced out about every 2 animals. Just what I saw and my 2cents.

Cool!! I would think that the oxen would gouge each other with those horns or at least not work effectively. What a lovely photo to study. Thanks
