PTO Forecart
Posted by Kirsten(upstate NY) at 2015-06-30 13:59:56
My husband is building a forecart withn hydraulics and PTO. Looking to use a 27-35 HP engine. These are fairly expensive new. Anyone know of a website or dealer who has used or refreshed engines?

around this area you can buy a reefer engine off a semi trailer for less than $1000. there a diesel 4 cylinder run cheap. there about 35-40 HP

I would watch the local Craigs List. There are often engines listed that people have removed from lawn tractors, etc. Second to that if you have a Harbor Freight nearby their price on engines is quite a bit lower than other sources. Yes the quality may be lower but on a 2 cylinder engine of that size working on them and getting parts is no problem. Also in this type of application its use would be on an intermittent basis.

Just my $.02

Interesting Kirsten.

Is it going to be on a 2 wheel forecart?

I'd like one to run 9' swather with.

Well Wes, we cannot decide what to build. We saw a 4 wheeled cart we liked, but are still considering what to do.

This is on my list of things to build. I would try a local wrecking yard. A little VW Rabbit engine would be a great power plant. I have also heard but haven't followed up on it is an engine out a a reefer trailer. They are about 30 HP and build to run a long time at a steady RPM.

On my list.
