Farm Question 6/26/2015

What is meant by the term "nicking"? (in dairy cattle)
Response by CIW at 2015-06-26 11:57:02
Its a process that was used to prove a dairy bulls quality using his daughters milk production performance. It is rated in comparison to his daughters [maternal (I believe)] grandsires performance.
The bull is actually compared to his own line to see if he is a benefit too it. As well as being compared to the breed as a whole.
As I remember its based on butterfat content and lbs. produced.
