3-2 field hitch
Posted by Charlie T at 2015-05-23 10:07:32
Does anyone have a diagram or a good description of a field hitch with 3 horses in front, and two in back? I believe this hitch is sometimes used for plowing. I'm especially interested in how the lines are run to the 2 in back. Do you run lines at all, or just tie them to the britchin of the horses in front somehow? I'd appreciate any advice you can offer. Thanks!

White Horse equipment makes an evener to us with ropes and pulleys it works really well. A friend of mine has it and he and I put my 3 in the lead and his 2 in the wheel we tied forward to the center horses hip straps and chained them back to the draw chain. Takes a little adjusting to get things comfortable for everybody. Took about 2 rounds and the horses and us had good time my friend and I took turns driving. I would recommend it to you. We were pulling Pioneer 14" sulky 9" deep doing a pretty job of it. We did this at Western I'll.Threshers show there may be some pictures at their site cause there lots taken most couldn't believe we'd never hooked our horses together before. One of the biggest problems with these multiple hitch's is you have to give them time to get it and be willing to adjust by trial and error. Best of luck to you.

They were tied in and bucked back.

You could put lines on the rear 2 but the cross lines need to be really long to get the wide distence that makes this a good hitch,
