A good job plowing
Posted by Jerry Hicks at 2015-05-19 15:59:35
There is never a witness when everything goes right, but there is always a crowd when I really mess up! I'm way behind on my plowing and it is usually tough anytime I do it. I got my Floriani Red seed corn, enough for a quarter acre and just got to plow the ground today. Me and the mules plowed a quarter acre in an hour and 45 minutes. The ground turned over perfect and rolled out black as tar. Some of the prettiest and best plowing I've ever done. Now I'm starting to see what kind of plowing it takes to get an acre a day or better. Today's quarter acre was a record for me and I can hope with enough manure turned under it'll just keep getting better!

Wish I was there too participate,
good soil conditions makes all the different in the world. I would have to knock out a whole acer though.

It's a good feeling to know you and your team worked well together. Funny you should mention the "witness" bit. Even though we're on a rural road, I regularly have cars park to sit and watch (or photograph) my mules and me working. Makes me edgy and I just keep repeating to them, "please don't make me look bad." I don't want photos if things ever go awry!

I'd have been glad to have the help! I still have two acres left to plow. I've had a few photos taken where I cringed after seeing them, but then I figure the folks taking the picture didn't know any better.
I called white horse and got their price list on riding plows. I don't know that I'll get one any time soon, but I do like the way theirs are made.

The next time I get down that way, I am going to make a effort to get your way. you will probably have it all plowed by then.
