honey bees
Posted by S D Mannies at 2015-05-17 19:43:41

I found this Saturday evening, when I was cleaning up a spot to put my next hive. They were only a few feet from where I was looking too put them. A little tickle with the bee brush and they took up house keeping in the hive. This morning they were doing great.

Congrats on moving day! Congrats on having ANY bees at all. What I just read is that 42% of all bees in the U.S. have been lost over the winter. Sad.

Many years ago as a teenager I had a few hives of very tame bees. I could catch a swarm like that one with no suit just my tee shirt and a box rubbed with peach tree leaves they came right in.

Great catch.

It sure is nice when things work out that way! I sure hope they work for you!

Good on you! We just got into bees last year. Have a hive we have to split here shortly. I wish we could find a free swarm though!

The only thing I don't like about working with the hive is that I'm scared to death of killing or hurting the queen when we pull frames to check for brood or problems. Folks tell me it rarely happens, but I know my luck........

One caveat with the queen is that she is rarely in the upper boxes. You could also mark her and put in an excluder.
