feels good
Posted by mark wv. at 2015-04-24 19:42:13
It has been a long winter here. A few days ago I ran the disc harrow to loosen things up a little. Today (4-24-15) was finally dry enough to plow the potato patch. Usually I plow it and let it set for a while but the spring has been too wet. The team worked in good order after loafing most of the winter and we hitched to the Vulcan #13 L.H. and got it turned . Then disc harrowed ,it crumbled nicely. Then used my 19yro.Suffolk to lay off the rows ,he walked slowly and carefully it was a pleasure to make the rows. We got them planted and covered before dark this evening. Hard work but it felt good to be using the team in the garden again! I wish everyone well in getting your garden/field work done with the weather wherever you are...............Mark wv.

I share your joy in spring work, Mark. Here the first rows of potatoes are sprouting and my rye is heading already- a bit early.
All the vegetables have been planted respectively sown that need to be at this time of the year, things look good so far. We have started harvesting arugula, spinach and radishes. am glad I do not have to worry about corn and soybean prices.

Although I get tired of winter there are times I dread spring. Calving season can be a challenge at 7000'. The workload is daunting at times.
However,I agree with you. Doing different jobs with my horses and mules is the highlight. And when I get to do some dirt work, that is gratification.
