Plowing Snow
Posted by Mptclinics in IL at 2015-02-22 11:27:04
We finally had a decent snowfall this winter, with about 7 inches total. I got to really put my Pioneer plow to the test, and it worked like a charm! Looking at the photos, I think we should have let the horses move further forward by about a link, but we got the job done. We plowed about 2 miles worth of neighborhood roads and driveways, and the horses didn’t even break a sweat. Between logging yesterday, and plowing today, they got two, really good, consecutive days’ work. I love the way the plow picks up the snow and just rolls it over! You can see that in several pics. After we put the horses away, we turned all the steers, horses, and even the guardian dogs out to frolick in the snow-covered pasture. The steers were more inclined to come sniff and lick at me, but I think everybody’s happy to be in the double digits and seeing some sunshine today! Enjoy!

Very nice, and a lot of fun, too, I suppose!
Great looking team!

Pioneer ought to use your pictures in their sales brochure! If you encounter heavy weight snow causing your forecast to slide to the side, I have two IH wheel weights on the deck of my forecast and now the heavy wet snow slides off of the blade instead of the blade sliding off of the snow. You have a new version, mine doesn't have the "shoes" on the back, if I am not careful I can plow all of the rocks off of my lane. Thanks for the pictures, everything looks picture perfect.

Are you using your horse that was injured a few months back yet?

No, the injured horse is still recovering. We had to purchase the one with the blaze as his replacement. We hope the other one will be working again my summer, but he has not made his healing easy. He has ripped that wound open over and over again. It is healing, though, just not as fast as we'd hoped. He is back to full turnout and has even entered basic retraining and conditioning (though his trainer knows nothing of driving horses, so I'm not really sure how that's going to work out!). I'm just appreciating that they are keeping his mind Stimulated and keeping him respectful. That will help if we do get him back.
