I want to build a a shed for mules, donkeys etc. Is there anything to cover the wood with so they won't eat it.

steel or concrete

My donkeys do chew on wood. I've had to cover all edges with metal. The corners of the wood posts on the new metal barn were all covered with metal strips. I used roof flashing to cover edges of the wood surround on their water tank. The metal seems to keep them from destroying the structures.

My donkeys eat pine boards like popcorn. They will not chew oak boards.

There is an expensive product called Halt Crib that works, but is $50 a gallon. Mules and donkeys chew. It is best to build everything out of steel or concrete as Dale stated. Another option is to cover everything with chain link mesh. Any paint on or spray on will need re-application in the future. It's bets to do it right the first time and save yourself a lot of frustration.

Dry wall angle on edges works for me. Some use chicken wire.

We've built 2 run-ins out of used/discarded folding metal closet doors. They make great walls.

A student housing/apartment building was replacing all the closet doors, so instead of hauling them to the landfill, we took 1/2 and a friend took 1/2 (and did the same thing).

We used old tin roofing (from a small barn that was torn down locally) for the roof.

I covered the roof edges and corners with steel sheeting and my mule has managed to put teeth marks all over the steel, occasionally bending some pieces. Used motor oil mixed with diesel or kerosene. I put it in a sprayer and once a year spray everything that I don't want him to eat.

I buy the cheapest Cayenne pepper dry seasoning I can find dilute it with water until it will spray out of a bottle and give everything a good shot of that it doesn't take long for them to learn that boards are spicy

Has anyone ever tried making a solution with alum? I thought that stuff was pretty tart and would make your mouth pucker.

Other thought - horseradish.
