Oxen in Missouri
Posted by Kristyn at 2015-02-14 10:37:18
We looking for others with oxen in Missouri - Noticed that there isn't any online stores with supplies (yolks & Hardware) to speak of. Looking to make our own but looking for others in our area to learn a few tips from.

Hi Kristyn! Where are you located? We are just outside of Kansas City at Mo. Town 1855. We have a 2 year old team of Shorthorns. My friends at Grassy Ridge Oxen have a team of Shorthorns too. Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop just over the line in Kansas is training a young team of calves. So here we are! Hope you are close. Come by and chat or e-mail me at

Funny Klaus! I didn't even notice that! It would be very messy to put a yolk on your ox. :)

I believe there is guy outside of Rolla that uses his oxen. I thought he wrote an article about a year ago in RH. Check the front porch finder. I could be wrong..... It happens.

That's Carl Heth in Rolla, Jeremy. He gave the first answer to Kristyn's question on this thread. He is a good guy who has a lot of experience driving draft horses first, and then in more recent years, oxen. Always eager to help people.

I was wondering if "Yokes" were called "yolks" in certain areas of the country/world when I read the posts?? Thanks Klaus, you seem to always be on top of things.
Sometimes helps when eveyone talks the same. ;-)

Both Carl and oxchick are wonderful people (as are most of us ox folks.) Have fun with your oxen, Krysten. What breed are they? Please do consider visiting us Midwest Ox Drovers Association (MODA)folks at our annual gathering at Tillers International near Kalamazoo, MI the third weekend of June. Check out the MODA website and facebook page. Keep in touch...
